The Royal Ascot is possibly the poshest and well known horse race in all of England. Thanks to a little movie in the 1950’s and the famous line about a certain horse named Dover, the whole world knows about the Ascot. Today, there are a mere 3000 seats available for the general population and the dress code for the Grandstand is only slightly relaxed compared to what was popularized in My Fair Lady. For those who choose not to dress up or simply did not get tickets this year, watching the Royal Ascot at home and hoping those bets win with sky lanterns is as fun and doesn’t require a big hat to gain entry.

The traditional Chinese lanterns which our sky lanterns are based on were used over 2000 years ago as a way to send up messages to the heavens. Those messages were essentially prayers for family, good fortune or success and wealth. Why not use a mixed pack of coloured floating lanterns to send up prayers that your chosen horse wins the race with a matching lantern. When your horse runs to victory at the Royal Ascot this week, send up more lanterns or perhaps a fitting smile with our smiley face novelty lantern available here: http://www.nightskylanterns.co.uk/novelty-sky-lanterns/smiley-face-sky-lanterns/prod_38.html .

Alternately, using sky lanterns as a way to distract from a loss of a sure thing is another good use. The sky lantern experience is one that is very relaxing and watching a lantern float off can take your anger and have it drift away with the floating lantern. Our large and giant sky lanterns are an excellent way to really make sure the effect of calm is successful. The large sky lanterns are available here: http://www.nightskylanterns.co.uk/sky-lanterns/2-x-large-sky-lanterns/prod_27.html and require a second person for a safe launch and measure in at 195cm tall. Our extra large lanterns are an extra 10cm tall and can be purchased here: http://www.nightskylanterns.co.uk/sky-lanterns/2-x-giant-lanterns/prod_29.html. These lanterns both will float for miles and can be written on with permanent marker prior to launch. The writing can be the hope or dream prior or an effigy of the jockey that blew the race if the horse loses, the sky is the limit for what can be written or drawn on these lanterns prior to launch.

Many of the races for the Royal Ascot will be viewable on BBC and the purses for these races are some of the highest in all of English horse racing. Today’s biggest race is The King’s Stand Stakes with a £300,000 prize pool. Betting for this race is sure to be heated as well. Each day has great racing with the potential of sure wins and huge upsets. For those watching at home, they can skip the petticoat, the top hat and enjoy the races from home, choosing to encourage their horse to win in whatever fashion they deem proper. Whether it is motivational words like Eliza Doolittle’s or sky lanterns being launched with a hope and prayer, the horses will run and that encouragement is sure to help them on their way to a finish.
